I am a software developer and computer scientist living in the San Francisco Bay Area of California.

At work:

I worked at Google in Mountain View, California, where I refactored the internal automated workflow for feeding customer-supplied data into the Google Base database.

I worked on Acrobat 4.0 through 7.0 at Adobe Systems, where I was hired to help design and implement PDF's logical structure feature; I then moved on to integrate extensible metadata into the language [Details].

Other places I have worked include Apple Computer and Xerox PARC.

I have a Ph.D. in Computer Science from Yale University. My Ph.D. thesis (PDF, about 800K) contributes to the theory of programming languages that are simultaneously functional and imperative.

My B.A. in Physics is from Harvard University.
